How to upgrade
Upgrading your DeskNow Mail and Collaboration server from a previous
release is usually very easy, because the program and the data are
clearly separated.
If you installed DeskNow using DeskNow.exe
- Stop DeskNow if it is currently running.
- Backup your desknowdata folder (ex. create a copy of the folder
in another location). The location of the desknowdata folder was
set by you when you initially installed DeskNow (it is usually
C:\desknowdata). If you are using an external database for DeskNow,
backup the database.
- Only if you are upgrading from 3.0.x or earlier: uninstall DeskNow by clicking on the Uninstall DeskNow
icon in the program group in the Start menu. IMPORTANT the uninstaller will ask you if you want to
keep the user data. Answer Yes.
- Install the new release of DeskNow as normal.
- If upgrading from 3.0.x or earlier: run the configuration wizard if you need to run DeskNow using non-default pots (80,443).
- Once finished, start DeskNow. All your settings and data will
be preserved.
- If you are upgrading from a 2.x version, the first time
DeskNow starts it may take a little while to upgrade your data
structure, depending on the size of your database. This is normal.
If you installed DeskNow using desknow.tar.gz
Please refer to the readme.txt file included in the archive (look for the "Upgrading" section).
If you installed DeskNow using the manual
procedure (your own J2EE application server)
- Stop DeskNow (the servlet engine) if it is currently running.
- Backup your desknowdata folder (ex. create a copy of the folder
in another location). If you are using an external database for
DeskNow, backup the database.
- Uninstall DeskNow by removing the /desknow webapplication
- Install DeskNow following the documentation - you only need
to deploy and configure the webapplication, making sure that your
web.xml file contains the path of your desknowdata folder.
- Once finished, start DeskNow. All your settings and data will
be preserved.
- If you are upgrading from a fairly old version, the first time
DeskNow starts it may take a little while to upgrade your data
structure, depending on the size of your database. This is normal.
Important: if you manually customized the DeskNow interface (JSP,
etc), you will need to reapply the customization. Pay attention
to not cause conflicts with the new version of the pages.
