How to upgrade
Upgrading your DeskNow WebMessenger server from a previous release
is usually very easy, because the program and the data are clearly
separated.
If you installed DeskNow WebMessenger using
DeskNowWM.exe
- Stop DeskNow WebMessenger if it is currently running.
- Backup your desknowdatawm folder (ex. create a copy of the folder
in another location). The location of the desknowdatawm folder
was set by you when you initially installed DeskNow WebMessenger
(it is usually C:\desknowdatawm). If you are using an external
database for DeskNow WebMessenger, backup the database.
- Uninstall DeskNow WebMessenger by clicking on the Uninstall
WebMessenger icon in the program group in the Start menu.
- IMPORTANT the uninstaller will ask you if you want to
keep the user data. Answer Yes.
- Install the new release of WebMessenger as normal.
- The installer will ask you where you want to store your desknowdatawm
folder. Input the path of the existing desknowdatawm folder, without
the desknowdatawm name (ex. C:\).
- The installer will inform you that it will be using the existing
desknowdatawm.
- Once finished, start WebMessenger. All your settings and data
will be preserved.
If you installed DeskNow using desknowwm.tar.gz
- Stop WebMessenger if it is currently running.
- Backup your desknowdatawm folder (ex. create a copy of the folder
in another location). The location of the desknowdatawm folder
was set by you when you initially installed WebMessenger (it is
usually /var/desknowdatawm). If you are using an external database
for WebMessenger, backup the database.
- Uninstall WebMessenger by removing the application directory
(usually /var/desknowwm).
- Install the new release of WebMessenger, but do not replace
/var/desknowdatawm.
- Once finished, start WebMessenger. All your settings and data
will be preserved.
